About

About

Originally crafted in the summer of 2016, Dragon Tree Lounge ran Poetry Night for five years on Balmung as a relaxed venue. The vision began with the singular concept of giving everyone a chance at the spotlight. FFXIV is a community and this is how I choose to help everyone get their creative voice heard. It's meant to provide even those with stage fright a safe space to take the spotlight. We're all the main character (or Warriors of Light) in our own eyes and I want others to be able to see it, too.

Rules

With an open stage, anything can happen. Poetry and songs can have vulgar language, and adult themes. Everyone is welcome to use the stage to express themselves, even if that tilts into a realm not often celebrated in "polite" society. This is why it is encouraged for performers to give a content warning before they begin. That said, this is not a NSFW venue. While I hope most people can be respectful, there might be incidences that take you out of a SFW environment due to stage content. As for off the stage; we're here to have fun, don't ruin it for others. This venue encourages an In Character environment. However, there are times when the stage reactions and/or performances pulls you Out Of Character.

Poetry Night

Poetry Night

Take the stage and craft the night in prose! Here, you can speak your heart where you will gain solidarity and diverse perspectives.Poetry can be beautiful, and it can be cruel. It can open doors to conversation, or give pause to consider a new viewpoint. Develop your skills and grow on and off the stage at Poetry Night.

How it Works

Sign up beforehand using the sign-up sheet, or message Acqua Tofane at the venue. Everyone is allowed one piece at a time, or if you have a small piece (e.g. haiku) you can do a few as long as it doesn't extend 10 minutes. At the current time, please do not allow your work exceed 10 minutes in length.Any written word is accepted. You can share a poem, short story, song lyrics, or something else! Original or published works accepted, and please cite the creator of the work if at all possible. While Dragon Tree Lounge encourages RP, OOC works are fine as well.It would be wise to set up your work in a Macro so you don't have to type out each line while on stage for a smoother performance. Make sure the lines are spaced with a timer, eg. <wait.4> Presenters on stage should use /y for speech so everyone can see your verse. Please check out the Tutorial for more assistance about Macros.OOC warnings are encouraged for sensitive material before they are presented.

Etiquette

Please keep public RP/comments to a minimum while a performer is on stage. Reactions are not discouraged, but the chatter should be lowered so we can focus on the words from the poet. Comments between performers is greatly encouraged, however.

Open Stage

Dance Night

New to Dragon Tree Lounge, but not in companionable concept, Dance Night gives the audience a chance to dance their hearts out to their favorite music for all to enjoy. This is Macro Dancing for the individual rather than having to be a part of a whole troupe. You are welcome to add lyrics as well, as if your character is singing while dancing!

What is Macro Dancing?

Before we were using mods as a way to dance at the club, we used Macros and streamed music to sync up our movements to a song. You might see several amazing groups out there that hold the stage captive with their show, seamlessly swapping through emotes and job actions as one. It's amazing and fun, and now you get to do it!

How it Works

Sign up beforehand using the sign-up sheet, or message Acqua Tofane at the venue. Each individual (or group) is given the chance to present one dance, and if we go through the list of presenters, you are allowed a second.Provide for me a YouTube video of your song. It would be best to be able to listen to voice chat on Discord so I can count you in.Do not use mods in place of emotes when dancing as this is a console friendly venue.OOC warnings are encouraged for sensitive material before they are presented. Those with issues with flashing lights are advised to turn off their Battle Effects.
To turn off flashing combat lights, go to Character Configuration > Control Settings > Character and set Battle Effects to "None" or "Limited".

Etiquette

You are welcome to speak freely during Dance Night! You're not regulated to silence. Feel free to chat with your fellow RPers during the show. Open RP is highly encouraged!

Getting Started

You have 99 slots with 15 lines each to set up your macro. You can add names and images to these macros slots. There are several ways to set up a dance to a song, but here's my way. When listening to a song, I will start with a dance, count how long I want the next move to show up to align with the music, and start a new dance move. It can take a bit of trial and error to make the emote align with the music, but once you get the flow, it all comes together. You will always want to <wait.#> between moves/speech or else it will not trigger. You can do it all on the same line. For example I want to do Bees Knees for four seconds, then swap to the Popoto Step. I would write it as follows;/beesknees <wait.4>
/popotostep
That took up two lines. Remember, you cannot do half seconds, like <wait.4.5>.If you're unsure what the emote is, you can hover over the emote in the emote menu and it will tell you at the bottom.

Quick Tips

<wait.#> to wait before triggering the next line./e to give yourself a message no one else can seeJob actions /action [action name] or /ac [action name]Change your job/gear with /gearset change [#]

Final Thoughts

It takes practice and time to line up your moves and/or lyrics to the music. Lots of replaying to get it right, but once you understand the basics, there's all sorts of fun things you can do, like change glamours or jobs mid-dance to add flare.Get creative and have fun!
